We’re excited to shine a spotlight on Cole Miller, a 4th-grade teacher at Wakarusa Elementary School, whose classroom is buzzing with energy (pun intended!) thanks to the ETHOS GLC Science curriculum. Cole’s passion for creating a student-centered learning environment shines through in everything he does, and this year, it’s clearer than ever with the success of GLC.
Thanks to a generous donation from a former science teacher, Cole is able to meet ALL of the National Science Standards through engaging, hands-on experiences using the GLC Curriculum... and the results have been nothing short of amazing!
In one recent lesson, students explored electrical energy, conductors, and insulators by lighting up LED lights with playdoh. One of Mr. Miller’s student’s, Mariah, enthusiastically shared,

Cole didn’t stop there! His students took it to the next level, designing their own night lights using LED lights and Styrofoam cups. As the excitement built, the room was filled with shouts of joy from the students:
"I DID IT!"
"Mr. Miller, WATCH THIS!"
"I can’t wait to do this at home!"

The classroom was filled with students working together, helping one another, regardless of academic or language levels. What really stood out to Cole, however, was how his students were thinking critically about the lesson and applying what they were learning. Without any prompts, one of his students excitedly pointed out, “Mr. Miller, wouldn’t this be a cause-and-effect text structure?” Talk about engagement! The learning wasn’t just hands-on—it was also deeply reflective.

Cole’s classroom is a shining example of how GLC can transform teaching and learning. With 100% student engagement, GLC is giving Cole’s students the opportunity to truly grasp science concepts in a way that is both fun and meaningful.

We couldn’t agree more and the students shared that sentiment! Madison captured how much her awareness of science has grown by stating, "We are around science every day and we don't even realize it!"
